The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, reported that approximately one in every seven hundred babies in the United States is born with Down Syndrome affecting approximately two hundred and fifty thousand families in the United States alone, while the World Health Organization estimates one in one thousand, one hundred births are affected worldwide (B. Reyna-Matiut, 2018). It is estimated that the world population of individuals with Down Syndrome is about six million people. Although detection of the condition is possible early during the pregnancy thanks to a non-invasive medical procedure called amniocentesis, more parents are choosing to continue the pregnancy and give an opportunity for life to the baby. Down syndrome babies are born the same size as healthy babies but they grow at a much slower pace and have very distinctive physical characteristics as well as intellectual deficiencies and higher risk for medical conditions. As the minute spark of anger morphs into a small flame, it begins to control the thoughts, intents, and actions of its victim. Motivated by the increasing heat of anger, the victim seeks revenge. During this time, anger shackles its victim in chains and throws away the key. Grappled in these chains, the victim cannot escape on his or her own initiative or power. In the Iliad, Achilles finds himself shackled in these chains of anger. Even though Achilles fights viciously in the Battle of Troy, he willingly surrenders to anger when Agamemnon seizes his girl, Briseis. Musing over his aroused anger, Achilles allows anger to shackle him in its impeding chains. By looking deep into nature, one can find the inner workings of the universe and the simplicity of life. The Puritans and other main characters in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter did exactly this. Within the novel, readers witness many natural occurrences such as a meteor in the sky, a rosebush outside of a prison, or the sun setting on the horizon. The Puritans in the book analyze these events as â€Å"godly† and connect the events with the ongoings of the Massachusetts†¦show more content†¦Pearl, Hester’s child out of wedlock, then emphasizes on the idea of darkness following Hester when she declares to Hester, â€Å"the sunshine does not love you. It turns away and hides itself, because it is afraid of something on your bosom† (Hawthorne 167). The letter on Hester’s bosom not only repel the townspeople, it drives off the sunshine and light that used to follow her wherever she went. She is considered as a social outcast among her peers and even the children of the community. Looking back through history women have been the ones who take care of the home and children, while men are the ones who work and go to war. However in recent years there’s no doubt that women have become much more equal in the work force. Nevertheless men are still the ones who are forced to fight our wars when the time calls for it. Many think that women should be entirely equal to men having their choice to be drafted taken away but the fact is that they are physically at a disadvantage, too emotionally oriented, and the increase of female presence would have a more negative impact in the military in the way of social interactions.
